It's funny how one disagreement or misunderstanding can ruin an entire relationship.
It's funny how pride and ignorance can keep a person from doing what's right... or admitting their wrongs.
These things keep us from truly connecting with one other in love and giving each other what is needed for a successful relationship.
Some of us are more willing to fight than to listen. More willing to argue than to understand. And more willing to dwell in the foolishness of it than offer a sincere apology and move forward.
Why is this?
Why are we more willing to hurt each other than to humble ourselves?
Why are we more willing to break up happiness than put our pride aside and preserve it?
We've got to learn to fight differently!
It stands to reason that if the lack of listening leads to misunderstandings, then actively listening leads to understanding.
If arguing leads to dissension, then avoiding the argument and speaking to one another with gentleness and clarity can bring people closer together.
If not apologizing brings bitterness and resentment, then a sincere apology brings forgiveness.
But, we would rather fight to be right than admit that we are wrong.
We would rather place blame on others than take responsibility for ourselves.
This is why relationships don't last and the divorce rate is so high.
Thus is why we are running from partner to partner, perpetually single and forever dwelling in loneliness.
It's time to start fighting differently!
And I'm willing to start the fight - right here, right now.
I'm willing to fight with love rather than with damning words.
I'm willing to admit that I am wrong rather than prove that I am right.
I'm willing to uplift and encourage rather than criticize everything that is wrong.
I'm willing to keep quiet rather than argue my point.
I'm willing to fight.
But, I'm not fighting the same way I used to.
I'm not fighting with my words or my fists.
I'm not fighting in anger or with sarcasm.
I'm not fighting with my words or my fists.
I'm not fighting in anger or with sarcasm.
I'm fighting with prayer!
And I'm letting the Lord fight my battles.
